SEA-KAYAKING AND NATURE GUIDE
From October to March/April. Full-time job.
Pōhatu Penguins/plunge is looking for a friendly and conservation-minded guide.
We are a small family business operating group tours from Akaroa to isolated Pōhatu/Flea Bay and Pōhatu Marine Reserve, focusing on endemic wildlife and the conservation of Kororā/little penguins.
Conservation for the Little Penguin is at the heart of what we do and why we operate. Our regenerative eco-tours are the main funding source for the conservation of Kororā/little penguins in Pōhatu.
With nature tours, sea-kayaking safaris and evening penguin tours – we need a summer guide to join our team during this busy season – to share the unique story of this beautiful area.
Tours can last from 2 to 5 hours with some starting at 8.00am and some finishing at 10.30pm at night with gaps in between.
Tours start from our office in Akaroa. You will need to deliver commentary while driving via a small, steep, narrow, gravel road with 4X4 mini-van, walking/hiking and sea-kayaking.
Requirements will be:

Guiding experience,

Kayaking qualifications, (specific to a kayaking guide applicant)

Having a full driver’s license for at least 2 years,

Understanding of ecological principles,

Be able to work alone or in a team,
- Someone able to work 6 days a week over the busy season.
Note that further specific training related to areas would be provided.
Ideally this job would suit someone that loves working outdoors, meeting new people everyday and love working with wildlife!
