Kinsman Potatoes Limited is a South Canterbury based potato growing and harvesting business established in 2011. Our main harvest season runs from early January through to around the end of May, with our busiest period from mid-March through to May.
At peak harvest we operate both day and night shifts, with two harvesting crews working in different paddocks. The majority of our harvesting takes place in and around Ashburton, with our paddock teams including harvester operators, tractor drivers, digger drivers and harvest crew who work together to get the potatoes safely out of the ground and on their way to the factories.
We also have a large team based at McCain Foods in Timaru, where our staff are involved in potato receival and sampling product going into storage, helping to keep the harvest operation moving.
During our busiest period we employ around 65 seasonal staff across the paddock, transport and factory operations. It’s busy, practical work with long days during good harvesting weather, and a great team effort to keep everything moving throughout the season.
